I am a historian of medicine, gender, and mobility in modern Japan, with broader interests in transnational and global history, the history of science, and the history of empire. I am Lecturer and Research Scholar at the Heidelberg Centre for Transcultural Studies (HCTS), Heidelberg University.

My research examines how medicine, religion, and mobility shaped modern Japan and its wider connections to East Asia, Europe, and the United States. My first monograph explored the medical activities of American Protestant missionaries in Japan.

I am co-editor of Medical Women in the Japanese Empire: Sources and Critique (Routledge, 2025) with Aya Homei and Ellen Gardner Nakamura. This volume brings together new primary sources and critical perspectives on women medical professionals across East Asia. The project reflects my broader interest in the intersection of gender, expertise, and empire in transnational contexts.

I am currently working on a second book project on the transnational history of women doctors within and beyond Japan, with particular attention to professional mobility, gendered expertise, and imperial formations.
